SNL had some fun with Utica on Thursday night during a skit with “Governor David Paterson”. In the sketch, Paterson (played by Fred Armisen) was asked by Seth Meyers whether or not he had a chance to win if he ran for Governor against other hopefuls like Cuomo and Guilianni. He responded, “Those cologn-soaked, city-slickers are never going to connect with the gumbys in upstate NY. I dare Andrew Cuomo to show his pretty face in Utica, the locals will just hide in their caves and through boulders at him.”

dinoGood Morning America is filming a segment at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que in Syracuse today. Dinosaur was voted one of The Top 4 BBQ joints in the U.S. by Good Morning America viewers. The segment should air on Saturday and the winner of the best BBQ in America will be announced Sunday.

Last night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, he did his weekly Headlines bit where he reads poorly worded, humorous newspaper headlines. Savvy Upstate New Yorkers may have noticed “Utica O-D” handwritten on one of last night’s articles. The headline refered to a tractor trailer accident that involved pie and injured 18 people.  We tried to find the headline on the OD’s website but, of course, it wasn’t there.

A Rotterdam man won $50,000 on “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?”  yesterday.  Fred Ebert, a special education teacher at Niskayuna High School and a Rotterdam resident, walked away with $50,000 on the ABC game show.  Ebert first appeared on Friday and the show continued over to Monday, though it was actually taped on an earlier date.

“Ebert had a chance at $100,000 when asked a question in the “Latitude Adjustment” category, but, not being sure of the answer, he declined to offer a guess and risk losing the $50,000.

The question was: “Which of these world cities occupy roughly the same latitude?: A: Washington, D.C., and Athens; B: Rio de Janeiro and Mumbai; C: Paris and Tokyo; and D: London and Beijing. The correct answer is A, Washington, D.C., and Athens.”

The fictitious Syracuse New Times was mentioned this week on Castle. In the episode, Castle’s latest book is released to rave reviews but his mother, trying to keep him down to earth, finds a bad review in the Syracuse New Times. Of course, the paper (albeit fake paper) is not viewed in the best light as Castle and his daughter ponder how long it took her to “dig that up”.  Castle, starring Nathan Fillion, is a new ABC drama about a murder mystery writer who shadows a female detective he is modeling his next character after.  If you missed it, you can watch it now at Hulu.com.

A Canastota resident got a “bad hair” makeover today on Live with Regis and Kelly. Amanda Klitch, a 26-year-old artist, entered the show’s bad hair day contest and won a trip to NYC to have her bad hair made over!

Curly hair specialist, Ouidad, taught Amanda how to manage her frizzy, curly hair. After a deep treatment, cut, and highlights, Amanda looked like a whole new person! Congratulations to Amanda on her make over!

In last week’s episode of Big Love (episode 30, “Come Ye Saints”), the Henrickson family takes a cross country road trip to the annual Hill Cumorah Pageant in Palmyra, New York. The Hill Cumorah Pageant is held every year in July to commemorate Pioneer Day. The upstate NY location was chosen because Mormons believe this is where Joseph Smith found the golden tablets on which the Book of Mormon was written. During the pageant, actors perform scenes from the book of Mormon using Hollywood style effects and lighting.

As for The Henricksons, many secrets were unraveled as they made the trek across country. Guess we’ll have to tune in next week to see the fallout. If you want to catch up with America’s favorite polygamists, check out HBO.com’s programming schedule.

In last week’s episode of The Office, Pam and Michael hit the lecture circuit and visited several Dunder Mifflin branches, including the Utica branch! In the background, during Michael’s awkward banter, upstate New Yorkers may have noticed a few Utican props decorating the set. For instance, we noticed a Utica phonebook and a picture of the Gold Dome Bank. Did you catch anything else we may have missed?

If you haven’t seen the episode you can watch it now on NBC.com.
