For those of you who caught the end of SNL on Saturday night and couldn’t figure out what Jimmy Fallon was holding up to the camera, it was his B.A. from the College of St. Rose. Fallon was the commencement speaker at St. Rose’s Graduation at SPAC on Saturday along with Utica native and pollster, John Zogby. Fallon kept the crowd laughing while giving the students a hard dose of reality.

“I’m not going to lie to you: The real world is freakin’ terrifying,” Fallon said. “The real world is really expensive and sometimes it’s hard to find a job, and no matter how hard you try, you can’t use your Golden Knights cash card to buy toilet paper,” he joked, referring to the school’s mascot.

Fallon left St. Rose to pursue a career in comedy in the mid 90s with only 15 credits left to complete. The college awarded him a bachelor’s degree on Saturday after he presented Saint Rose officials with a portfolio proving that he had mastered the skills for a communications degree.

Congrats to Jimmy who is proof its never to late to graduate!

brad-pittWhile Angelina Jolie was filming scenes for Salt in Albany over the weekend, Brad Pitt took their sons, Pax and Maddox, to Niagara Falls for some good old fashion sight-seeing. Pitt, along with his parents, brought the boys for a ride on the Maid of the Mist where the family took pictures of each other in front of the falls and even wore the goofy blue ponchos just like everyone else!

Upstate New York is in the spotlight again for another tragedy. It has been revealed that the “Craig’s List Killer” is a 2004 graduate of VVS and a recent graduate of University at Albany.  Philip Markoff was arrested in the Boston-area as a suspect in the “Craig’s List Killer” case Monday. Markoff is currently attending Medical School at Boston University and is engaged to be married. He is accused of meeting women offering erotic services on online classified advertising site Craigslist.com and then attacking and robbing them in Boston–area hotels.

Right now, there are at least 40 people taken hostage and 4 have been confirmed killed in a shoot out at the American Civic Association in Binghamton. Again, upstate NY is finding its way into the national spotlight under horrific circumstances, which, of course, contributes to the negative media stereotypes of upstate NY.

There isn’t too much information about why the shooter is holding hostages but you can follow the story as it unfolds at CNN.com.
