Last night the city of Rochester helped provide a backdrop for a new movie that’s being filmed in upstate NY.

All downtown business were asked to keep their lights on until 6 p.m. so a film crew could shoot an aerial scene of the city.

The scene is for a new drama is called “After” about secrets and how far some people will go to protect the ones they love.

Penfield-native Sabrina Gennarino is the writer, producer and one of the stars of the film. She joins Diane Neal from “Law & Order SVU”, Oscar-nominated actress Kathleen Quilin and Darrin Dewitt Henson from “The Express” in the film.

paul-dano

Production Weekly sent an interesting Tweet earlier this month that said Paul Dano would be filming his next movie in upstate NY. “Paul Dano has been cast in So Yong Kim’s indie drama “For Ellen,” due to begin filming February in Upstate New York.”

We couldn’t find any more information about the movie, and as any upstate NYer knows, “upstate” to the rest of the world usually means Westchester County, but the prospect of another big movie filming in our neck of the woods is still pretty exciting. Of course we’ll keep you posted as more information about the movie becomes available.

Dano, who is best known for his role in Little Miss Sunshine, just wrapped Knight and Day with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz which is due in theaters next year.

The lead singer of Weezer was involved in a bus accident Sunday that left him and another passenger hospitalized.

Rivers Cuomo, 40, is still in St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, New York where he is suffering from several injuries including broken ribs and injury to his spleen.

Luckily, Cuomo’s wife, daughter, and a fifth passenger on the bus were not injured. The bus was traveling from Toronto to Boston for a show Monday night at the Agganis Arena at Boston University.

The accident occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. Sunday, while the bus was traveling eastbound on the Thruway near Amsterdam. The driver said the back end of the bus slid on ice, then went into the median and hit some reflective posts before crossing back over the highway and going over a guardrail.

Weezer has canceled the rest of their tour until Cuomo has recovered.

Viggo Mortensen, a 1976 Watertown High School and 1980 St. Lawrence University graduate, could not get his latest movie, The Road, screened in Watertown.

He personally called Regal Cinemas to request “The Road” play at the Salmon Run Mall, but due to its limited release in only 128 theaters, Regal Cinemas’ film department opted to open the film at the Carousel Mall instead.

“Unfortunately the distributor didn’t keep their contractual agreement — their commitment to put it out in 1,200 theaters or more,” Mr. Mortensen said. “That’s unfortunate for Watertown people to have to go to Syracuse.”

“The Road” stars Mortensen as a father taking care of his only son in a post-apocalyptic world. It is based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy.

Dustin Diamond, better known as Screech on “Saved By The Bell”, signed copies of his new book, “Behind the Bell”, at the Barnes and Noble in New Hartford on Friday. Fans were lined up around the building waiting for an autograph from the star who has also appeared on “Celebrity Fit Club”.

According to Amazon.com, “Diamond’s new book gives readers the disheartening story of an ex-child star. Dustin faced serious challenges moving his career beyond his comic role as the smart, funny, and endearing nerd of Bayside High School (Samuel ‘Screetch’ Powers) on the show that made him an audience favorite. Through his eyes, we uncover Hollywood’s myths and see what happens when the lights go out and career expectations are shattered. Dustin also reveals how working as a child actor on SBTB created emotional turmoil that hurt his life at home and his future. For the first-time, Diamond presents the inside story of the young cast from Saved by the Bell that the viewing public thought were so lucky.”

Diamond also made an appearance at the 20th Anniversary party for a local DJ, Bill Keeler, which was held at the Stanley Theater Friday Night.

It looks like the Turning Stone may have played a role in the Tiger Woods scandal. Tiger, who recently admitted to “transgressions” after a suspicious car accident on Thursday night, apparently spent some “quality” time with two women while staying at the Turning Stone this summer. Apparently, women were “interviewed” for Tiger’s gig in Verona and Us is reporting, “Woods had other ‘dalliances’ [...] with a blond and a brunette at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in upstate New York.”
